Harmony Five Oakland Concert reviews
A hit & a miss
The show began at a quarter to 11pm, with the evening starting in what felt like an oven. M's request for no AC made it a bit torturous for the audience, with temperatures reaching at least 80 degrees. Some may argue that the theater's constraints may harness the artist's creativity, but the production was plain and simple. This night included many monologues from Madonna, at times feeling ingenious when she meant to be inspiring, and a bit of a ramble at other times. The setlist could have done with an edit, as 3-4 songs felt unnecessary with the long talk sessions. The production was on par with a high school drama class, lacking in creativity. The new album is not her best, with some of the older songs like Human Nature and a snippet of La Isla Bonita feeling tired since they've been used in the last 3 tours. Frozen was a highlight, providing emotional content missing from most of the show. Another highlight was the moment she passed right by me, and I was able to touch her hand at the end of the show. Overall, the intimate setting was not fully utilized to the best of her ability, leaving me a little disappointed.
